Tradition & Culture at Assisi Niketan Convent School

Assisi Niketan Convent School, Mohanbari, draws its strength and identity from the rich spiritual heritage of the Franciscans of St. Mary of the Angels (FSMA). Rooted in the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, our school culture blends academic pursuit with values that foster compassion, simplicity, and a deep reverence for life.

Faith-Inspired Foundation

At the heart of our school life is a strong spiritual foundation. We begin each day with morning prayer, nurturing the students’ relationship with God and shaping them into responsible, value-driven individuals. We also promote interfaith respect, emphasizing unity among students from different religious and cultural backgrounds. The feast day of our Patron Saint, St. Francis of Assisi, is one of our most cherished traditions. Celebrated annually as our School Day, it is marked with a solemn prayer service and joyful cultural programmes that reflect his message of peace, humility, and service to the poor and the planet.

Inclusive Culture

One of the proudest aspects of our tradition is our inclusive approach to education. Founded with a vision to support children with hearing and speech impairments, our school welcomes students of all abilities. We provide a compassionate environment where diverse learners thrive together, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Cultural and National Celebrations

Our school takes pride in celebrating the vibrant cultural mosaic of India. Events like Diwali, Christmas, Bihu, Children’s Day, Republic Day, and other national holidays are observed with enthusiasm and participation from the entire school community. These celebrations deepen the students’ understanding of cultural diversity, harmony, and patriotism.

Formation of Leaders

Following the words of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam – “A leader is someone who effectively leads everyone with his leadership capacity” – we hold an Investiture Ceremony to formally install our school’s student leaders. This tradition instills in them a sense of duty, discipline, and responsibility, laying the foundation for future changemakers.

Co-curricular Spirit

The school believes in holistic development through rich co-curricular experiences. A wide variety of events — fashion shows, drawing competitions, storytelling, solo singing and dancing, Rangoli making, literary contests, and inter-house activities — are conducted regularly. These experiences cultivate creativity, teamwork, self-expression, and confidence among students.

Connection with Nature

In line with our patron’s love for creation, we instill in students a deep respect for Mother Earth. Environmental awareness and sustainability practices are embedded in our culture. Students actively participate in activities that promote care for the planet and responsible living.

Picnics and Educational Visits

Our annual school picnic, such as the recent trip to Sivasagar, forms an important part of our tradition. These excursions offer students a chance to explore the world beyond the classroom, strengthen peer relationships, and build lasting memories in a fun-filled learning environment.

Community & Belonging

From the initiation ceremony for our youngest LKG students, which warmly welcomes them into the Assisi Niketan family, to our regular PTA meetings that build a strong home-school connection, every tradition nurtures a sense of belonging and unity. Our vibrant school culture is upheld by a committed faculty, involved parents, and an enthusiastic student body.

Assisi Niketan Convent School continues to uphold its traditions with reverence while embracing the evolving needs of society. With hearts rooted in faith and hands ready to serve, we move forward — striving Excelsior, yet higher — in every walk of school life.
